Derived from the Portuguese term, barocco, meaning, irregular pearl or stone. The Baroque was a period in art history that originated during the beginning of the 17th-century in Italy.

The baroque style is characterised by exaggerated motion and detail used to produce drama, exuberance, and grandeur.
